Why do Engineering students need knowledge of Management?

Management is a discipline intrinsically connected to nearly every field of knowledge.


Business Management is the function of carrying out configuration, organization, planning and execution of various business processes, effectively & efficiently.


Management is all about decision making in a situation where there are many options and every option is associated with its limitations, possibilities & future impacts


To be a successful Management Professional, a manager must acquire both, the knowledge of decision making and the art of applying it.


If we read the above statements, we understand that management is not something which is the exclusive domain of the B-School Students only. Management is the field of knowledge which is connected to every aspect of life. Just that the B-School students study it, acquire deeper insights and develop related skills.


Usually, after completing Engineering studies students follow any of the following routes:

  • Take up Higher Studies in Management
  • Take Up Career in The Field of Engineering
  • Take Up Career in The Field of Management

  • Start Own Business

Each of the option above is connected with business and business operations. The field of engineering is closely connected with field of business. Knowledge of engineering that students acquire in the engineering institutes is ultimately used for business. Thus, understanding of business and business operations helps the students to relate their engineering studies with the career options, and make informed choices.
Engineering students need to work in industry as a part of their curriculum, which we call internship. Understanding of management and business prepare the students to understand the organization and its operations and make better use of the opportunity.


Thus, understanding of Management arms, the students to make the right choices along their career, and also prepare them to understand and appreciate the subjects of engineering.
Hence this is a must do course for all engineering students irrespective if they want to join their family business, start their own business or take up a job.

 

Introduction to Management

Objective of the Program: The objective of this program is to develop Managerial Competence amongst the participating students. The program shall also help the students to understand Business, Business Organizations, Business Management, Organization Management and Operations Management. This improved understanding shall help the students to improve their employment prospects and professional competence.


Certification: Every student, on successful completion of this program, shall receive a Certificate of Completion.
Admission Eligibility: Any Undergraduate Engineering student from any stream studying at A.P. Shah Institute of Technology (APSIT), who have cleared all the subjects of previous years is eligible to join this program.

Program Tenure: The entire program shall be held in 2 Stages

  1. Class Room Training – The classroom training would span  for  64  hours  (8  working days x 8 hours per day)
  2. Project Work – At the end of the classroom sessions, the participating students shall be assigned a project, which they need to complete over next three months. They shall receive periodic guidance from our experts for the projects. At the end of the program the participating students shall be assessed for their performance on the project.

On successful completion of the classroom training and project the students will be awarded certificates.
Course Coverage: The Program is based on the book “Total Management Framework” authored by Mr. Milind Kotwal.
The course shall cover all necessary concepts and information on the subject of Organization Dynamics and Management Functions, that is required to develop managerial competence.

This has given him rare insight in functioning of different organizations. He has published a book on Management in the year 2017 by the Title “Total Management Framework” This book is expected to revolutionize Management Education, Practice and Consulting.
