Automation & Control

The purpose of this laboratory is to train the students to be familiar with the software and hardware of PLC and learn about ladder logic programming. Also validate calibration of different measuring instruments. Measurement is fundamental basis of all research, design, development. It is necessary for measurement of different parameters, for which it is theoretically designed, and compare between theoretical values and actual values.

Basic Workshop

Basic Workshop is a place where students acquire knowledge on the operation of various processes involved in manufacturing and production. The Workshop Practice course makes students competent in handling practical work in engineering environment. Basic Workshop is also involved in different maintenance/repair works for the Institute.

Central Computing Facility

Central Computing Facility is used train the students for the international market in development of Computational Geometry algorithms for application in Computer Graphics, Computer Aided Geometric Design, Manufacturing and Computer Aided Analysis and Computational Mechanics. This lab provides advanced versions of AUTOCAD, CREO & ANSYS. Lab includes 48 terminals with high end configuration and centralized server connectivity.

CNC Centre

The CNC machine recently procured at Mechanical Engineering Department is exceptional combination of design and manufacturing. The main purpose of CNC lab is to provide facilities for the students to study about CNC coding and then later, develop G-codes for the CNC machines.  Once programming for the CNC machines is accomplished, students test their codes on the actual CNC machines in the CNC Machine lab.

Fluid Mechanics & Machinery

The Fluid Mechanics and Machinery Laboratory is designed to examine the properties of fluids and to conduct experiments of incompressible fluid flow. The laboratory is also equipped to conduct experiments on fluid statics, closed channel flow, centrifugal pumps and hydraulics turbines. The facilities can accommodate up to three labs running concurrently depending on the experiment involved.

Heat Transfer , Refrigeration & Air conditioning

Heat transfer, Refrigeration & Air conditioning Lab emphases on providing environment where students can understand the basic concepts of Heat transfer, Refrigeration & Air conditioning and its actual applications in various industrial and domestic fields. The lab is well-equipped with calibrated equipment which enables students to understand and implements their knowledge of  Heat Transfer, Refrigeration & Air conditioning.

Internal Combustion Engine & Automobile Engineering

The laboratory is equipped with number of equipment & experimental setups to study the aspects of the internal combustion (IC) engines.  With wide varieties of engines, associated computer assisted equipment, dynamometers (DC Generator, Hydraulic and Rope Brake) the lab caters to the needs of all students at APSIT. With the state-of-the-art equipment, the lab is well equipped to work related to IC engines and vehicle performance testing which work on conventional fuels as well as Bio fuels. Available equipment include:  Single Cylinder Four Stroke Diesel Engine; ; Computerized single Cylinder 4 Stroke petrol engine Test Rig; Electric motor operated Cut Section Model of Four Cylinder Four Stroke Engine; Model of Hydraulic Brake Unit, Exhaust Gas Analyser, models of Braking System, Differential, Gear Box, and other vehicle components

Machine Shop

Students are encouraged to work on industry grade geared lathe machines, shaper machine and milling machine to manufacture steel workpieces and component assemblies as per the job drawings provided..

Material Technology

The objective of the Material Technology laboratory is to give a broad understanding of common materials related to mechanical engineering with an emphasis on the fundamentals of structure-property-application relationships. The laboratory is equipped with material properties and behaviour testing apparatus. Students can also prepare the sample for studying microstructure using microscope. Effect of heat treatment processes, fatigue test and corrosion rate test can also be conducted in the laboratory.

Metrology Lab

Metrology Laboratory is designed to examine  various dimensional parameters of a component using industry grade precision instruments.

Students are encouraged to perform various practicals using these instruments and imbibe the concepts of quality control and quality assurance.

Strength of Materials

It is a lab for testing of materials. There are 5 major equipments namely Universal Testing Machine(UTM), Torsion Testing Machine, Hardness Testing machine, Impact Testing machine(Izod and Charpy). 9 experiments are performed in this lab with 5 students/batch namely tensile test, compressive test, shear test, torsion test, hardness test, toughness test, flexure and bending test

Theory of Machines

Mechanisms is an assembly of moving parts performing a complete functional motion, often being part of a large machine; linkage. This lab is to impart practical knowledge on design and analysis of mechanisms for the specified type of motion in a machine. With the study of rigid bodies motions and forces for the transmission systems, machine kinematics and dynamics can be well understood.
